DIVINE LITURGY IN THE ORTHODOX COMMUNITY OF MWURIRE – ORTHODOX CHURCH IN RWANDA – On 4th February 2018
"By the blessing of His Eminence Innocentios Byakatonda, the Bishop of the Orthodox Diocese of Burundi and Rwanda, on this Sunday 4th February 2018, was celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the 3rd time, in the Orthodox Community of Mwurire, Sector of Mwurire, District of Rwamagana, East Province of Rwanda, presided by Father Maximos (Rameki) MBERABAHIZI, more than a hundred people attended the service, most of them being the faithful of Mwurire Orthodox Community and a little number of the Orthodox Parish of Saint Catherine located in Gishari Sector, and the Parish of Twelve Apostles of Rwamagana.
The Divine Liturgy has been prepared in the framework to celebrate one year anniversary of this community, from the official inauguration of the Orthodox Community of Mwurire carrying out the apostolic orthodox activity. Indeed, the Community had started on 5th February 2017, it is at that time that was celebrated the very first Divine Liturgy for the Official Inauguration. Today was also a feast in honour of the baptism of 27 faithful of Mwurire Community who were baptized on Epiphany 2018 on Muhazi Lake, East Province of Rwanda.
In the Gospel read on this Sunday (John 1:18-28), giving a reply to the Pharisees who asked him why he was baptizing whether he was neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet, John the Baptist said: " I baptize in water, but among you, though you do not know him, stands the one who is to come after me. I am not good enough to unfasten his shoes." (John 1: 26-27)
After the Divine Liturgy was the moment to share the fellowship, whereby the community members, those baptized and many who prepare to be baptized very soon, gave thanks to Reader Michael (Modeste) MUSHINZIMANA who began and is representing the Orthodox Apostolic Mission in this Community, profiting by the opportunity to give him a wonderful gift.
We wish fruitful apostolic activity to the Orthodox Community of Mwurire.
Blessings to everyone who makes the Lordꞌs highway straight and can recognize Him standing among His people!"

Tην 5η Φεβρουαρίου 2018, η ΑΘΜ ο Πάπας και Πατριάρχης Αλεξανδρείας και Πάσης Αφρικής κ.κ. Θεόδωρος Β΄, επισκέφθηκε το παρακείμενο στο Πατριαρχικό Μέγαρο πάλαι ποτέ Αβερώφειο Παρθεναγωγείο, εντός του οποίου στεγάζεται, προσωρινώς, το Ίδρυμα Ελληνικού Πολιτισμού Αλεξανδρείας. Σε αυτό, εκτός των άλλων δραστηριοτήτων του, διδάσκεται η Ελληνική γλώσσα, σε όσους και όσες αυτόχθονες και μη, επιθυμούν να γίνουν κοινωνοί αυτής.

Στο χώρο αυτό, ο Αλεξανδρινός Προκαθήμενος, είχε την ιδιαίτερη χαρά, να συνομιλήσει με Μοναχούς της Κοπτικής Εκκλησίας, οι οποίοι με ζήλο σπουδάζουν την αρχαία ελληνική γλώσσα, υπακούοντας την προτροπή του Κόπτη Πατριάρχη κ.Tawadros II, να γνωρίσουν τον ελληνικό πολιτισμό, καθώς και τη γλώσσα του Ευαγγελίου και των Πατέρων στο πρωτότυπο, επισκεπτόμενοι την Ελλάδα.

Είναι συγκινητικό το γεγονός, ότι άνθρωποι που μεγάλωσαν σε διαφορετικό πολιτισμικό και θρησκευτικό περιβάλλον, γίνονται μέτοχοι των νοημάτων των ιερών κειμένων της Εκκλησίας τους, μέσα από τη μελέτη, την έρευνα και την διδασκαλία της γλώσσας, χρησιμοποιώντας την ως εργαλείο. Ας σημειωθεί, πως η Κοπτική Εκκλησία χρησιμοποιεί, σε μεγάλο μέρος της λατρείας της, ύμνους και κείμενα στα ελληνικά.

"Who is the good Shepherd?"

Each and every one of us is one of His flock. Each one in His flock know His voice and it they gladly follow. He lays His life for a sheep. Who is this good Shepherd?
Christ is the Prototype. In our families, parents, are the shepherds, and their children the flock, the fruits of their parenting portrays their shepherding. When a child goes astray, it shames the shepherd, likewise, when we run astray, it hurts God. He worries for us.
The evil one I'd very cunning. He wishes to tackle the stray sheep.
But God is so compassionate that He reaches for the injured sheep and brings it back to His flock. The shepherd He is, He carries it in His shoulders. Likewise should, we who are placed in the leadership positions, carry any of our ailing flock, with perseverance, care,mercies and humility.
The Mother of God humbly carried and cared for God and the fruits of her work are so evident in the entire world. Why shouldn't our Shepherding be hailed?

On 5th February 2018, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa visited the old Averof Girls School adjacent to the Patriarchal Mansion, in which the Hellenic Culture Foundation of Alexandria is housed temporarily.

Here, apart from its other activities, Greek language is taught to both locals and others who wish to be a part of it. In this place, the Alexandrian Primate had the pleasure of chatting with the monks of the Coptic Church, who zealously study the ancient Greek language, obeying the exhortation of the Coptic Patriarch, Tawadros II, to learn Greek culture and the language of the Gospel and the Fathers in the original, by visiting Greece.

It is touching that people who grew up in a different cultural and religious environment become sharers of the meanings of the sacred texts of their Church through study, research and the teaching of language, using it as a tool. Let us note that the Coptic Church uses, in much of its worship, hymns and texts in Greek.
