On Sunday 12 January 2014, the Orthodox communities of Cape Town attended the Service of the Sanctification of Waters and the throwing of the Holy Cross into the water. The ceremony was held at the new Orthodox Centre’s pool. This year the cross was caught by George Kappatos and Yuri Komarov who both share the same patron Saint – Saint George the Great Martyr of the Orthodox Church.
