Orthodox Archbishop Seraphim of Zimbabwe and Angola said his own church, present in Africa since the first century, feels a “deep responsibility” for current climate-related problems.
He told Catholic News Service thinks effective counter-measures are hampered by the Western countries, which “seem happier to sell guns than help governments adapt to climate damage.”
Although widely praised for its top-level ecological commitment, the Orthodox Church needs more action with local faith communities and nongovernmental organizations, Archbishop Seraphim added.
“As the climate pollution increases, people will die,” he told Catholic News Service Nov. 21. “We need our congregations and communities to show spiritual solidarity with victims of climate change, by promoting a sense of the common good over narrow national interests.”

Ο 28χρονος Αιγύπτιος Ρεμόν Γιούσεφ, έχοντας διατελέσει ιδιαίτερα αγαπητός υπάλληλος της Κοινότητας, πριν από πέντε περίπου χρόνια, ευχαρίστησε για την συνεργασία και αποφάσισε να αποχωρήσει για να εργαστεί στις εκδόσεις της Κοπτικής Εκκλησίας, αξιοποιώντας τις σημαντικές μεταφραστικές γνώσεις του, σε μεταφράσεις θρησκευτικών βιβλίων.
Πρόσφατα, όντας παντρεμένος με ένα κοριτσάκι, αποφάσισε να αφιερώσει την ζωή του στην Κοπτική Εκκλησία, έγινε πρεσβύτερος και μετονομάστηκε σε πάτερ Λούκα Γιούσεφ.
Μάλιστα, στις 12 Δεκεμβρίου, συναντήθηκε με άλλους κόπτες ιερείς με τον Προκαθήμενο της Κοπτικής Εκκλησίας Πατριάρχη Ταουάντρος (Θεόδωρος) Β΄, στο μοναστήρι του Αββά Παϊσίου.

Από την Ακαδημία Αθηνών, τιμήθηκε η Ιεραποστολική Επισκοπή Κατάγκα του Κονγκό στο Κολουέζι για τη φιλανθρωπική δράση της
Μεγάλη και εξόχως τιμητική ήταν η διάκριση για την Επισκοπή Κατάγκα του Κογκό, που τής επεφύλαξε η Ακαδημία Αθηνών.
Στην απονομή των βραβείων του κορυφαίου πνευματικού οργάνου της Ελλάδας, για το 2013, συγκαταλέγεται το σπουδαίο ιεραποστολικό έργο της δραστήριας Επισκοπής, που προσφέρει τον χριστιανισμό, την ορθοδοξία, την Ελλάδα, μα πάνω από όλα την αγάπη και την στήριξη των εμπερίστατων λαών της Αφρικής.
Έτσι, στις 20 Δεκεμβρίου 2013, στην ετήσια πανηγυρική συνεδρία της που πραγματοποιήθηκε στη λαμπρή αίθουσα τελετών του μεγάρου Χάνσεν, η Ακαδημία Αθηνών απένειμε «Βραβείο εις μνήμην Φωτεινής Κουνάδη –Κατσαρέλη, με χρηματικό έπαθλο 5.000 ευρώ, για τη βράβευση ορθόδοξων ελληνικών ιεραποστολών που δραστηριοποιούνται στην Αφρική, στην Ιεραποστολή Kolwezi της Επισκοπής Κατάγκα του Κονγκό για την μακροχρόνια φιλανθρωπική και κοινωνική της δράση που επιτελείται κάτω από αντίξοες συνθήκες». Το βραβείο περιλαμβάνεται στην κατηγορία Ηθικών και Πολιτικών Επιστημών.
Να σημειωθεί ότι η συνεδρία ξεκίνησε με ομιλία του Πρόεδρου της Ακαδημίας Αθηνών Σπύρου Ευαγγελάτου, με θέμα: «Η Ζωή του Γαλιλαίου του Μπρεχτ και η ευθύνη του επιστήμονα απέναντι στην αλήθεια». Στη συνέχεια απονεμήθηκαν τα φετινά βραβεία.
Τιμήθηκαν, μεταξύ άλλων, για το σύνολο του έργου τους οι ποιητές, Μάνος Ελευθερίου και Θανάσης Χατζόπουλος, ο δοκιμιογράφος Νάσος Βαγενάς, οι πεζογράφοι Σωτήρης Δημητρίου και Αμάντα Μιχαλοπούλου για συλλογές διηγημάτων τους και η δοκιμιογράφος Μαρία Δεληβοριά για τη μελέτη της για τη «Γυναίκα της Ζάκυθος» του Σολωμού. Επίσης βραβεύτηκαν ο ιστορικός Γεώργιος Τόλιας, ο φιλόλογος Κυριάκος Τσαντσάνογλου, ο αλεξανδρινός αρχιτέκτονας Mohamed Fouad Awad, για τις υπηρεσίες του στη διατήρηση και ανάδειξη της ιστορικής και αρχιτεκτονικής παρακαταθήκης του ελληνισμού και της Ορθοδοξίας στην Αίγυπτο, η Ιεραποστολή Kolwezi της Επισκοπής Κατάγκα του Κονγκό για τη μακροχρόνια φιλανθρωπική και κοινωνική της δράση, η Δημόσια Βιβλιοθήκη Κέρκυρας για τη μακρόχρονη, πολυδιάστατη και πολύτιμη προσφορά της ως εστία πολιτισμού που προάγει την επιστημονική έρευνα και την πνευματική δημιουργία στα Επτάνησα και την Ελλάδα, το Σωματείο «Σύλλογος οι φίλοι της Μουσικής», για την πολυετή και εξέχουσα προσφορά του στο χώρο του πολιτισμού, των τεχνών, της παιδείας και ιδίως της μουσικής, το Βιβλιολογικό Εργαστήρι «Φίλιππος Ηλιού» για το εθνικής σημασίας έργο της σύνταξης της Ελληνικής Βιβλιογραφίας του 19ου αιώνα (46.500 εγγραφές) που βρίσκεται αναρτημένο στον διαδικτυακό τόπο του Μουσείου Μπενάκη, και ο 15χρονος Τηλέμαχος Τσιμηρίκας ο οποίος κάηκε στην προσπάθειά του να διασώσει από πυρκαγιά τα δύο μικρότερα αδέλφια του.
Ο Γενικός Γραμματεύς της Ακαδημίας Αθηνών Βασίλειος Πετράκος παρουσίασε το έργο της Ακαδημίας το 2013, το προγραμματισμό για το επόμενο έτος και αναφερόμενος στη Ελλάδα του σήμερα μεταξύ άλλων τόνισε: «Ζούμε τέσσερα χρόνια οπισθοδρόμησης παρακμής και κοινωνικής φθοράς. Οι νέοι μας επιστήμονες, οι άνθρωποι της τέχνης, εκείνοι που αποτελούν πνευματικό και δημιουργικό αίμα του λαού φεύγουν για πάντα, μας εγκαταλείπουν και προσφέρουν το ταλέντο τους σε ξένους, ακόμη και εχθρούς μας, γιατί εδώ δεν έχουμε τη δυνατότητα εξαιτίας μιας αποτυχημένης και ετεροβαρούς οικονομικής ένωσης, να εργαστούν και να δημιουργήσουν. Και όσοι από τους νέους μένουν υφίστανται τις συνέπειες των ενεργειών αστόχαστων ανθρώπων που δεν έμαθαν ποτέ ότι το 1821, το 1912-13, το 1940, το 1944, έγιναν από Έλληνες που αψήφησαν τον εχθρό και τον νίκησαν. Δεν έζησαν σαν υπηρέτες πλουσίων, αλλά πολέμησαν και ένοιωθαν νικητές και στην κατοχή. Τέσσερα χρόνια ήττας και ταπείνωσης που ζούμε έπρεπε να είναι τέσσερα χρόνια πολέμου δικού μας. Θα ήμασταν πληγωμένοι αλλά ελεύθεροι να προχωρήσουμε προς την αναδημιουργία που ήδη μας έχει εγκαταλείψει μαζί με τα παιδιά μας».

Συνάντηση με τον Επίσκοπο Μοζαμβίκης Ιωάννη, είχε τις προηγούμενες μέρες στο γραφείο του ο Υφυπουργός Εξωτερικών Άκης Γεροντόπουλος. Στη συζήτηση που έγινε παρουσία και του Κυβερνητικού Εκπροσώπου Σίμου Κεδίκογλου, εξέτασαν θέματα που αφορούν την Μητρόπολη Μοζαμβίκης καθώς και το σημαντικό ιεραποστολικό της έργο στην περιοχή αυτή της Αφρικής.
Ο κ.Γεροντόπουλος συναντήθηκε για πρώτη φορά με τον Επίσκοπο Μοζαμβίκης πριν από ένα μήνα κατά το ταξίδι του στη Νότιο Αφρική.
Τότε είχαν συμφωνήσει να συνεχιστεί η κουβέντα τους για τις δράσεις και τα προβλήματα της Μητρόπολης Μοζαμβίκης μόλις ο Επίσκοπος Ιωάννης βρισκόταν στην Αθήνα, κάτι που έγινε τις προηγούμενες μέρες.
Για μια ακόμη φορά συνεχάρη μάλιστα τόσο αυτόν όσο και τους συνεργάτες του, για την σπουδαία και δύσκολη προσπάθεια που καταβάλλουν σε μια δύσκολη περιοχή της αφρικανικής ηπείρου.

The Thirteenth Apostle was in town earlier this week. The Judge of the Whole Universe. I am not kidding. His name is Theodoros II, and he is the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.
His full title is a bit of a going joke among the knowing: His Most Divine Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of the Great City of Alexandria, Libya, Pentapolis, Ethiopia, all the land of Egypt, and all Africa, Father of Fathers, Shepherd of Shepherds, Prelate of Prelates, thirteenth of the Apostles, and Judge of the Œcumene (inhabited Greco-Roman Universe). A bit too much for the head of the ever dwindling Hellenic community of Egypt and neighboring countries, not to be confused with the Coptic Pope, who bears a similar title but leads Egypt’s much larger indigenous Christian community, which broke away from the Greek Orthodox Church in the 5th century over Christological and political differences.
That could well be just one of those anachronistic tributes to the Golden Age, whenever one can find it, that people in the Orthodox Church are so fond of – after all Alexandria was indeed the second most important city in the Roman Empire. If it wasn’t for the remarkable missionary outreach into sub-Saharan Africa that turned the Patriarchate of Alexandria into one of the fastest growing and most actively evangelizing churches in the world. And if the Western Christian mission in Africa has been vividly described, vastly romanticized on the one hand, and criticized as a part of the European colonialism on the other, the Eastern Christian mission, both by the Greeks and by the Copts, both taking place largely in the late colonial and post-colonial era and to a large extent based on indigenous quest by native Africans, remains tremendously underresearched and underreported.
Patriarch Theodoros was in Moscow to receive the prestigious award from the Patriarch of Moscow, Kirill, and the Foundation for the Unity of the Orthodox Peoples, which he shared with Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas and the world’s number one tennis player – and apparently a church benefactor, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic. He also presided over a glorious service last Sunday at Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral.
Russian Patriarch Kirill made clear that he honors his “senior brother” in the unruly family of Orthodox patriarchs not only for his missionary efforts, but also as a token of solidarity with Christians in Egypt and elsewhere, who are suffering attacks from radical Muslims. “We are praying today for the Christians of Africa, especially Northern Africa, where Christian blood is being spilled now, but not only for them,” said Patriarch Kirill addressing Patriarch Theodoros. “We know that in the countries of Central Africa, Christians are being killed, sometimes whole villages are being annihilated because the very fact of a Christian preaching appears to someone untimely, superfluous and even dangerous… After visiting Moscow, you will go on a missionary trip to 14 countries, including those where Christians are being killed. We will be praying for you.”
The pomposity of the hierarchical liturgy somehow makes it hard to imagine Patriarch Theodoros playing the drum in a Madagascar village or surrounded by ritual dancers in Cameroon. But in his acceptance speech in Moscow, he made it all clear: “When I leave this world, I would like to be remembered as a missionary Patriarch,” he said.
It was only in the 20th century, and particularly since the 1950s, that the mission to sub-Saharan Africa began in earnest. Both the first President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios, and the present Archbishop of Albania Anastasios spent time as missionaries in Kenya and Uganda – the countries with the largest Orthodox presence in sub-Saharan Africa. Another towering figure in this effort was Patriarch Petros VII (1996-2004) who increased the number of dioceses and spearheaded a major missionary campaign in areas previously untouched until his dramatic death, together with three bishops and his brother, in a helicopter crash en route to Mount Athos.
I remember interviewing Patriarch Petros in Zimbabwe’s capital of Harare in 1998. When asked about the pompous ancient title, he appeared to have some weary embarrassment, as if he is often asked about it. “It is a tribute to an old tradition, and we only use it rarely in a liturgical context,” he said.
The numbers of Orthodox Christians in Africa is a big unknown. It is known that there are presently 21 archdioceses and 4 dioceses in the Church. Only two out of 27 active bishops are black. But the majority of clergy are native and locally trained in African seminaries. The total number of Orthodox Christians in Africa is estimated to have grown in the past 20 years from 200,000 to 1.5 million. Some sources speak of several million members, but it is impossible to verify any figures. What is important is that the growth is out there.
What is also remarkable is how this church combines in its worship the Greek, Russian and local cultural forms such as instruments and dance unheard of, if not to say an anathema in more traditional Orthodox cultures. The video of an Easter celebration in Ghana went viral last year among the world’s Orthodox Christians precisely for that reason. In a sign of a growing interest in Russia, a popular Russian Orthodox magazine Foma (Thomas) published a report about the life of a parish in Kenya which generated a large response from readers.
“In my view, this is probably the most interesting phenomenon within the ‘Orthodox world’ in the twenty-first century, and one that is very little known and even less understood,” Irina Papkova, the associate professor of political science at Central European University in Budapest said in an email interview. Papkova is also launching a research project on African Orthodox Christianity. “I think that it is important because of the ways in which Africans are adopting Orthodoxy. They are accepting the content of Orthodoxy, but they are transforming the form, which shows to us really that common images of Orthodoxy as a completely rigid religion are not accurate. There is plenty of space within the faith for creative transformation, at least as far as the form of outward worship is concerned. This is really important for us to remember, as Orthodox populations in Europe and Russia in particular are struggling with the question of how Orthodoxy fits with (post)modernity and whether it is heretical or not to adapt certain non-dogmatic aspects of worship (such as language) to contemporary cultural conditions.”
When one sees what is happening in Africa, it is impossible not to be inspired by the absolute purity of faith with which the people of Ghana, Kenya, etc. are accepting Orthodox Christianity. From the joy that one sees in their liturgical celebrations, you get the sense that the Africans are experiencing communion with Christ immediately, here and now.

In a sign of a growing interest in Russia, a popular Russian Orthodox magazine Foma (Thomas) published a report about the life of a parish in Kenya which generated a large response from readers.
“In my view, this is probably the most interesting phenomenon within the ‘Orthodox world’ in the twenty-first century, and one that is very little known and even less understood,” Irina Papkova, the associate professor of political science at Central European University in Budapest said in an email interview. Papkova is also launching a research project on African Orthodox Christianity. “I think that it is important because of the ways in which Africans are adopting Orthodoxy. They are accepting the content of Orthodoxy, but they are transforming the form, which shows to us really that common images of Orthodoxy as a completely rigid religion are not accurate. There is plenty of space within the faith for creative transformation, at least as far as the form of outward worship is concerned. This is really important for us to remember, as Orthodox populations in Europe and Russia in particular are struggling with the question of how Orthodoxy fits with (post)modernity and whether it is heretical or not to adapt certain non-dogmatic aspects of worship (such as language) to contemporary cultural conditions.”
When one sees what is happening in Africa, it is impossible not to be inspired by the absolute purity of faith with which the people of Ghana, Kenya, etc. are accepting Orthodox Christianity. From the joy that one sees in their liturgical celebrations, you get the sense that the Africans are experiencing communion with Christ immediately, here and now.

ΠΡΩΤΟΒΟΥΛΙΑ ΕΝΙΣΧΥΣΗΣ ΙΚΑΝΟΤΗΤΩΝ (ΕΙ) των μαθητών των Ελληνικών σχολείων Αλεξάνδρειας
Με μεγάλη επιτυχία και την προσέλευση πολλών παιδιών και γονέων, πραγματοποιήθηκε τελικά το Χριστουγεννιάτικο πάρτι που οργάνωσε ο εμπνευστής της ευγενής και αξιέπαινης πρωτοβουλίας ΕΝΙΣΧΥΣΗΣ ΙΚΑΝΟΤΗΤΩΝ (ΕΙ) των μαθητών των Ελληνικών σχολείων Αλεξανδρείας, Κώστας Ελευθερίου.
Στο πρόγραμμα (ΕΙ) συμμετέχουν περίπου όλα τα παιδιά του Πρατσικείου δημοτικού μας σχολείου αλλά και κάποιοι μαθητές του Αβερωφείου.
Το πρόγραμμα, εκτός των σχολικών μαθημάτων περιέχει επίσης:
• εκμάθηση τεχνολογίας,
• ενθαρρύνει την ομαδική εργασία
• προωθεί τεχνικές έρευνας μέσω του διαδικτύου
• Εποπτεύει μελέτες μαθητών σε διάφορα θέματα που διαλέγουν τα ίδια τα παιδιά και
• σύντομα θα προστεθούν και άλλα θέματα σύμφωνα πάντα με τις ανάγκες και επιθυμίες των παιδιών μας.
Η ενισχυτική διδασκαλία ξεκίνησε από τον Κώστα στις αρχές του καλοκαιριού και με μαρτυρία όλων των γονέων, η αναβάθμιση των μαθησιακών και όχι μόνο, ικανοτήτων των παιδιών τους είναι θεαματική. Την μαρτυρία αυτή έρχεται να επιβεβαιώσει και η συγκριτικά αναβαθμισμένη βαθμολογία των παιδιών στα σχολεία μας.
Ένας σημαντικός παράγοντας που συνέβαλε στην επιτυχία και ο θεμέλιος λίθος αυτής της πρωτοβουλίας, είναι η ανάγκη να πιστέψει το κάθε παιδί στις μοναδικές του ικανότητες, να σέβεται την ανάγκη εκπλήρωσης των καθηκόντων του αλλά και να μάθει να τα πραγματοποιεί με ευχαρίστηση.
Ο πάροικος και αξιαγάπητος φίλος, Κώστας Ελευθερίου, με μεγάλη ευχαρίστηση και αδυσώπητη ενέργεια, στερήθηκε κυριολεκτικά τον προσωπικό του χρόνο για να βοηθήσει αφιλοκερδώς τα παιδιά μας και του οφείλουμε όλοι ένα μεγάλο ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΩ.

Outline of the workshop: In this paper, which continues discussions that Professor Papadopoulos initiated in Cape Town in previous years, he will discuss how, in our increasingly demanding, perplexing and oppressing world today, people look for answers, comfort and meaning and often turn to psychology. He then explores the relationship between psychology and Orthodoxy, their similarities and differences. Particular attention will be given to the issues of suffering and facing adversity in everyday living. The workshop is not only aimed at relevant professionals but is also open to anyone who is interested in the topic. You need not have attended the first lecture to participate in the workshop.
The speaker: Renos K. Papadopoulos, Ph.D., is Professor and Director of the ‘Centre for Trauma, Asylum and Refugees’, and a member of the Human Rights Centre, at the University of Essex, as well as Honorary Clinical Psychologist and Systemic Family Psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic in London, UK; in addition, he is a training and supervising Jungian psychoanalyst and systemic family psychotherapist in private practice. Between 1970 and 1980 he was a lecturer in the Dept. of Psychology of the University of Cape Town. As consultant to the United Nations and other organizations, he has been working with refugees and other survivors of political violence and disasters in many countries. He consults and offers specialist trainings internationally and his writings have been published in twelve languages.
Over the last few years, he has been developing a new speciality, exploring the interface between psychotherapy and Orthodoxy and he has been supervising PhD research in this field.

His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa was in Cairo for the holy days of Christmas, to conduct the festal spiritual and Liturgical events as is Patriarchal custom.

On the eve of the Great Feast, following the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude received at the Patriarchal Vicariate the Scouts of Cairo, who, headed by their District Commissioner Mr. Alekos Kazamias, sang traditional carols. Remembering the time when he too was a scout in Crete, His Beatitude congratulated the Scouts on their work, in which they celebrate their hundredth year this year, and gave them icons, commemorative gifts and a significant amount in aid towards their efforts.
His Beatitude then went on to visit the Aged from Cairo in the Old Age Home of the Hellenic Community of Cairo, where together with the Scouts, they sang carols and distributed gifts, and following that the visited and exchanged wishes with those being cared for in the Arabic Orthodox Old Aged Home, in Heliopolis in Cairo.
On the day of the Nativity of Christ, the Alexandrian Primate conducted the Divine Liturgy for the Nativity at the Holy Patriarchal Church of St Nicholas in Cairo, aided by His Eminence Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, His Grace Niphon Bishop of Babylonia, Hegumen of the Holy Monastery of St George in Old Cairo, the Exarch of the Church of Russia Fr. Viktor Koulaga and the clergy of the Throne; also present was His Eminence Nicholas Metropolitan of Ermopolis.
Wishes from the Government of Egypt were given by Officials of the Presidency of the Government, the Army and the Administration of the city of Cairo, whom His Beatitude thanked for their presence and asked them to pass on his wishes to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Egypt, Mr. Adly Mansour as well as to the Head of the Armed Forces General Sisy. Greece was represented by His Excellency Ambassador Christodoulos Lazaris, Cyprus by the Honorable Consul General Mr. Fotis Fotiou, the Hellenic Community by the Chairman Mr. Christos Kavalis and the Arabic Orthodox community by the Chairman Mr. Robert Hosni.
Following the end of the Eucharistic gathering His Beatitude received the festive greetings of the Coptic Patriarch Theodoros II. Welcoming the Coptic Primate, His Beatitude expressed genuine feelings of joy for the visit, emphasizing their common interest in the progress of all citizens of Egypt, regardless of religious faith. On his behalf, the Coptic Patriarch also expressed his satisfaction on the mutual understanding which governs the relationship between the two churches and prayed that love will prevail in the hearts of all mankind. Archbishopric of Good Hope: Orthodox Centre for religious enlightenment opens its doors in Cape Town
The Archbishopric of Good Hope has acquired a new property which will be an Orthodox Centre for all Orthodox groups, irrespective of ethnicity or language. The purchase and renovation of the property was made possible by the donations of generous benefactors which were made for the specific purpose of creating a multi- cultural Orthodox Centre for religious enlightenment.
The Centre includes a large meeting area which will be named after the late Archbishop Paul Varnavas, and will be suitable for hosting functions and conferences. It will also be used by various Orthodox groups for cultural and educational programmes.
It is hoped that the Centre will offer Orthodox educational programmes, which will be complemented by the establishment of an Orthodox library, with reference facilities that can cater for various language groups and also house a collection of books of historical interest.
The first events that are planned at the Centre are:

Με ανήλικους μετανάστες γευμάτισε στην «Αποστολή» ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Ιερώνυμος

Μαζί με τους ανήλικους ασυνόδευτους μετανάστες του ξενώνα «Εστία» της «Αποστολής» γευμάτισε σήμερα το μεσημέρι ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αθηνών κ.κ. Ιερώνυμος.
Συνοδευόμενος από τον Γενικό Γραμματέα Θρησκευμάτων κ. Γιώργο Καλατζή και τον Γενικό Διευθυντή της «Αποστολής» κ. Κωνσταντίνο Δήμτσα ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος υποδέχθηκε παιδιά από διαφορετικές χώρες, συνομίλησε μαζί τους, άκουσε τις προσωπικές τους ιστορίες και ζήτησε να μάθει για τα όνειρα τους και τους στόχους τους.
«Σκοπός της Εκκλησίας και σήμερα», είπε ο κ. Ιερώνυμος, «είναι να στηρίζει τον άνθρωπο. Και ο Χριστός βεβαίως δεν κάνει διακρίσεις.
Ο ξένος, ο πλησίον στον οποίο αναφέρεται ο Χριστός δεν είναι μόνον ο ομόθρησκος, ο συμπατριώτης, αλλά και αυτός που είναι εντελώς διαφορετικός, αυτός που έχει διαφορετικά πιστεύω έχει διαφορετική θρησκεία, ακολουθεί διαφορετική ιδεολογία, έχει διαφορετικό χρώμα από μάς και ανήκει σε διαφορετική εθνότητα».
Στην διάρκεια του γεύματος ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος συζήτησε εκτενώς με τα παιδιά και το προσωπικό υπογραμμίζοντας ότι « ο Χριστός γεννήθηκε ως πρόσφυγας, έζησε ως ξένος, μάς δίδαξε με την παραβολή του Καλού Σαμαρείτου την αγάπη για τον διπλανό μας που ταυτίζεται με τον ξένο, και μάς διαβεβαίωσε ότι η στάση μας απέναντι τους είναι αποφασιστικής σημασίας κριτήριο για τη δικαίωση και σωτηρία μας.
Ο ίδιος ο Θεός ταυτίζεται με το πρόσωπο του ξένου! λέγοντας «Ξένος ήμην και συνηγάγετέ με» «εφ’ όσον εποιήσατε ενί τούτων των αδελφών μου των ελαχίστων, εμοί εποιήσατε».
Ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος διαβεβαίωσε τα παιδιά και το προσωπικό του ξενώνα ότι «η Εκκλησία θέλει την πνευματική καλλιέργεια του ανθρώπου, την ανάπτυξή του, αλλά είναι και συμπαραστάτης στις δυσκολίες του.
Θέλει να στηρίξει την ψυχή μας, να μας ενδυναμώσει, ώστε να πατάμε στα πόδια μας και βέβαια, όταν έχουμε πρόβλημα στέκεται πλάι μας».
