Οn 27th June 2018, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, arrived in Macedonia, in the Apostolic city of Veroia, following an invitation from the local Metropolitan, His Eminence Panteleimon of Veroia, Naousa and Kampania, to conduct the worship functions in honour of the Apostle Paul, as part of the 24th Pavleia.
On Thursday 28th June in the morning, His Beatitude the Patriarch addressed a greeting and shared with the delegates experiences of the Missions, at the closing of the deliberations of the 24th Three-Day International Scientific Conference of the 24th Pavleia, which this year had as its topic: “Evangelism and Mission according to the Apostle Paul”, at the Antoniadeos House of Literature and Arts of the Municipality of Veroia, in the presence of representatives of Orthodox Patriarchates and Autocephalous Churches, who also gave addresses and read messages from the Primates of their Churches.
In the evening Patriarchal Vespers was served with brilliance and formality for the feast of the Holy Apostles Paul and Peter at the celebrating Old Metropolis of Veroia, conducted by His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros II, who preached the homily.
On 7th July 2018, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, following an invitation from His Holiness Francis, Pope of Rome, arrived in Bari, in Italy, to participate in the “day of prayer” for the Middle East.
Bari in Italy is considered to be the gateway of the East and has St Nicholas as its Patron Saint.
For this reason, all the religious leaders who participate, began their programme praying at the Church in which the Saint’s relics are kept.
The main foundation and idea for the initiative is that the differences should be solved through dialogue and no through violence, particularly in the region of the Middle East, mother of all the monotheistic religions.
The religious leaders will attempt to find new effective ways of communicating and exchanging useful ideas and thought, for the effective support of peace.
Les premiers vingt jours du février dernier j’ai voyagé à Iringa en Tanzanie. Je suis allé rencontrer l’évêque d’Arusha et de la Tanzanie Centrale M. Agathonikos et son collaborateur Père Porfyrios, en espérant aider avec mes connaissances techniques comme architecte ingénieur la construction de l’Église de Saint Jean le Théologien. La préparation du voyage a commencé des mois avant et j’ai fait à temps tous les vaccins nécessaires et l’approvisionnement du médicament Malarone contre le paludisme. De Thessaloniki via Constantinople après 10 heures de vol je suis arrivé à la capitale de la Tanzanie Dar Es Salam. Il y a eu un certain désagrément pour l’obtention de visa à l’aéroport et la réception de mes bagages ainsi que le changement d’aéroport pour Iringa en taxi. Il est nécessaire qu’on soit attentif durant les déplacements nocturnes vu que sans taxi c’est dangereux et la connaissance de l’anglais est jugée indispensable. Le vol du transbordement a duré une heure et demie et à l’aéroport d’Iringa l’évêque lui-même M. Agathonikos m’attendu. Le climat de la Tanzanie est printanier ou automnal pour nos données européennes. Le mois de février est considéré l’un de meilleurs choix pour visiter Iringa. Pour arriver à Kidamali nous avons mis une heure et demie en voiture. Durant le trajet nous avons vu quelques églises orthodoxes. Dans une de celles-ci il y avait des grandes fissures à cause de l’affaissement de terrain. L’évêque était triste. Dans le centre missionnaire à Kidamali il y a deux Églises, celle de Saint Andronikos et Sainte Athanasia, celle de Saint Georges et de Panagia Dexia. Il dispose aussi un évêché, des chambres d’hôte, des cellules des moines, un orphelinat, des salles d’école, une clinique et une cuisine de restaurant. Il y a une clôture et un gardien. Les jours suivants nous sommes allés au village Ibongo treize kilomètres loin de Kidamali pour surveiller la construction de l’Eglise de Saint Jean le Théologien. Nous avons visité avec l’Évêque et le Père Porfyrios nombreux villages tels que Mgonga ou Makubike ou Ipoasi avec les Maasaï pour la célébration de la messe ou l’ouverture de forage ou l’inspection pour la construction d’une nouvelle Église comme à l’Ingagidugu 53 baptêmes ont été faits et le Dimanche de Carême l’Évêque a offert un repas à tous les prêtres et à tous les gens des villages tout autour. Les trajets étaient agréables parce que la nature était toute verte. Nous avons vu beaucoup d’églises orthodoxes. Dans une de celles-ci, à l’église de la Vraie Croix je me suis informé que durant sa construction le prêtre africain orthodoxe et les gens du chantier ont reçu une attaque avec des coups par des catholiques à tel point que des gens se sont blessés et l’intervention de la police a été jugée nécessaire. Il y a de la concurrence entre différentes croyances. Les établissements orthodoxes pâlissent devant les nombreuses installations organisées ainsi qu’assez grandes des catholiques, des protestants et surtout des musulmans qui disposent de grandes sommes d’argent. Au centre missionnaire au moins deux messes sont célébrées par semaine et l’Angélus par jour. De plus, chaque après-midi (sauf le weekend) les enfants du village sont réunis pour le cours de catéchisme ainsi que le repas ou le gâteau. Ils sont enthousiasmés par un bonbon ou un biscuit. Au village de Kidamali le Sida est une maladie fréquente, alors que nombreux souffrent de typhus et de paludisme. La clinique fonctionne de temps à temps et elle ne suffit pas. L’Évêque essaie de construire une autre ayant toutes les normes nécessaires. L’état de l’eau potable est dramatique. Nous avons vu des femmes ramassant de l’eau fangeuse par des flaques d’eau de torrent à sec. Les forages coûtent 4000 -5000 euros proportionnellement à la profondeur de découverte de l’eau contrôlée sanitairement. Les problèmes de l’échelon sont nombreux et contraignants dont la description exhaustive est impossible dans ce texte. La présence des gens prêts à être au service pourrait aider. Pourtant l’Évêché récemment créé d’Arusha et de la Tanzanie Centrale « il n’a personne ». Angelos Vogiatzis Membre régulier de notre Fraternité
