Τὴν Κυριακὴ 17 Δεκεμβρίου στὴν Ἱερὰ Μητρόπολη Κινσάσας ἐτελέσθη τὸ τεσσαρακονθήμερο μνημόσυνο τοῦ μακαριστοῦ Μητροπολίτου Πενταπόλεως Ἰγνατίου. Ἡ ἀκολουθία τοῦ μνημοσύνου ἔγινε στὸν Ἱερὸ Ναὸ Ἁγίου Νικολάου τῆς Ἑλληνικῆς Κοινότητος Κινσάσας, σὲ ὅλους τοὺς Ναοὺς τῆς Μητροπόλεως, στὴν Θεολογικὴ Σχολὴ «Ἅγιος Ἀθανάσιος ὁ Ἀθωνίτης» καὶ στὸν Ἱερὸ Ναὸ τοῦ Ἁγίου Ἀνδρέου τοῦ Πρωτοκλήτου στὴν Κανάνγκα, ὅπου καὶ ἐργάσθηκε τὰ περισσότερα χρόνια τῆς ἱεραποστολικῆς του διακονίας ὁ εἰς Κύριον μεταστὰς ἱεραπόστολος.

Στὸν μεγαλοπρεπῆ Ἱερὸ Ναὸ τοῦ Ἁγίου Ἀνδρέου τοῦ Πρωτοκλήτου ἔγινε ἀρχιερατικὸ συλλείτουργο, στὸ ὁποῖο συμμετεῖχαν ὁ οἰκεῖος Μητροπολίτης Νικηφόρος καὶ ὁ προσελθὼν Μητροπολίτης Κατάγκας Μελέτιος, καθὼς καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς τῆς Β΄ Μητροπολιτικῆς Περιφέρειας.

Στὸν ἑσπερινὸ καὶ τὸν ὄρθο χοροστάτησε ὁ Μητροπολίτης Κατάγκας κ. Μελέτιος, ὁ ὁποῖος καὶ προΐστατο στὴν Θεία Λειτουργία. Προσῆλθε πλῆθος κόσμου. Κατὰ τὴν Θεία Λειτουργία μίλησε ὁ Σεβασμιώτατος Κατάγκας καὶ κατὰ τὴν ἀκολουθία τοῦ μνημοσύνου ὁ οἰκεῖος Μητροπολίτης Κινσάσας Νικηφόρος. Ἀμφότεροι ἐτόνισαν τὸ ἱεραποστολικό, ἁγιαστικὸ καὶ οἰκοδομικὸ ἔργο τοῦ μακαριστοῦ ἀρχιερέως-ἱεραποστόλου καὶ τὴν ἐν γένει προσφορά του στὴν Ἐκκλησία. Μετὰ τὸ μνημόσυνο διενεμήθη ἔντυπο ἐνθύμιο σὲ ὅλους τοὺς πιστούς.

Τὸ ἀπόγευμα ἔγινε ἐκδήλωση εἰς μνήμην του ἀπὸ τοὺς μαθητὲς τῶν ἐκπαιδευτηρίων «Φῶς Ἐθνῶν». Μὲ συγκίνηση οἱ μαθητές, οἱ καθηγητὲς καὶ οἱ συνεργάτες ἀναφέρθηκαν στὸν Μητροπολίτη Ἰγνάτιο, ἀπήγγειλαν ποιήματα ἀφιερωμένα σὲ αὐτὸν καὶ τραγούδησαν κατάλληλα ἄσματα. Κατὰ τὴν διάρκεια τῆς ἐκδηλώσεως ἀκούστηκε ἡ φωνή του μὲ συμβουλὲς ποὺ τοὺς εἶχε ἀπευθύνει κατὰ τὴν ἔναρξη τοῦ σχολικοῦ ἔτους καὶ ἐπηκολούθησε βίντεο ἀπὸ τὴ ζωή του. Ἐπίσης οἱ ἀπόφοιτοι τῶν ἐκπαιδευτηρίων, οἱ ὁποῖοι προσῆλθαν ἀπὸ διάφορα μέρη, εὐχαρίστησαν τὸν εὐεργέτη τους ἱεραπόστολο-ἱεράρχη καὶ τραγούδησαν τὰ ἄσματα «Εὐχαριστῶ» καὶ «Αἰωνία ἡ μνήμη».

Τὴν ὅλη ἐκδήλωση ἔκλεισαν μὲ σύντομες ὁμιλίες ὁ Μητροπολίτης Κατάγκας Μελέτιος καὶ ὁ οἰκεῖος Μητροπολίτης Κινσάσας Νικηφόρος, οἱ ὁποῖοι τόνισαν τὴν προσφορὰ τοῦ μακαριστοῦ Μητροπολίτου Πενταπόλεως Ἰγνατίου καὶ παρότρυναν τοὺς μαθητὲς καὶ τοὺς παρευρισκομένους νὰ μὴν ξεχνοῦν αὐτὰ ποὺ τοὺς δίδαξε καὶ ὅτι διὰ τῆς ἐφαρμογῆς αὐτῶν θὰ δείξουν τὴν ἀγάπη τους καὶ τὴν τιμή τους πρὸς τὸν μεγάλο αὐτὸ ἱεραπόστολο ἱεράρχη.

Ἐπὶ τῇ εὐκαιρίᾳ τῆς ἐπισκέψεως καὶ ὀλιγοημέρου παραμονῆς τοῦ Μητροπολίτου Κατάγκας κ. Μελετίου στὴν Κανάγκα, ὁ οἰκεῖος Μητροπολίτης κ. Νικηφόρος ὀργάνωσε δύο συνάξεις ἱερέων, στὶς ὁποῖες ὁ ἅγιος Κατάνγκας ἀπηύθυνε πνευματικοὺς λόγους πρὸς τοὺς ἱερεῖς καὶ ἀναφέρθηκε σὲ πρακτικὰ θέματα ἀπὸ τὴν πολυχρόνια ἐμπειρία του στὴν ἱεραποστολὴ τῆς Ἀφρικῆς.

WE BOUGHT LAND!
St Barnabas orphanage and school in Kenya just bought land. Glory to God!!

Every child in the world has a dream, a secret wish – to have something special, maybe a pony or a race car. Perhaps a child dreams of going to see the ocean or the desert. Many children dream of having a permanent home where food is readily available on a daily basis, where they are dry and warm, where there is someone to kiss them goodnight as they tuck them into bed. Even adults have dreams – to be successful, to be free of pain or hurt, to have no debt or to give their child their secret wish.

This week a dream came true for me; Father Methodios Abbah JM Kariuki the Director of Saint Barnabas Orphanage and school in Kenya
I have long dreamed of a permanent home for the orphans of Saint Barnabas. A piece of property large enough to house the orphans, one with water and electricity, enough land so the children have room to run and play, a place to build more dormitories and classrooms to house and teach more children. This week that dream came true. Because of the generosity of all our donors and supporters, I Fr Methodius Jm Kariuki put a down payment on one (1) acre of land with one-half acre also available immediately. It has everything I dreamed of; buildings that are included in the purchase (but are temporary). The condition is not bad in comparison with the current living conditions. Minor repairs are required. A major drainage trench needs to be dug. A borehole (well) for water (cost: $20,000) will need to be drilled before moving the children to the new property.

December 25: Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Christmas); Jesus is born in Bethlehem and honoured by the wise men. (Matthew 2:1-12)

As we approach celebration of the Feast of Nativity of our King and Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God and the Saviour the humanity, we are very happy to wish to you good preparations and a Happy Celebration of Christmas and the New Year 2018. 
Christmas is a great Feast for all the family and especially for the little children. Our wish for everyone on this Christmas is to strive to be the " greatest in the kingdom of heaven".

Jesus tells us today: "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me." (Matthew 18: 3-5)

The worship of the Lord by the Magi is symbolic of the Church, the true Israel, in which membership is determined by faith, not by ethnic lineage. Let us come from all the corners of the world and walk to Bethlehem, guided by the star as the wise men / Magi, to worship the Christ Child, bearing our gifts: gold, for a King; frankincense, for God; and myrrh, for a Man who is to suffer and die for our salvation.

May you enjoy looking at the few pictures of the kids then gathered in the camp we had organized in our Orthodox Communities on Mount Kigali (outskirts of Kigali City) and on Mount Fumbwe - Nyagasambu (East Province).

May God remember each of you and bless you abundantly now and always. Have Peace brought by the Christ Child, Happiness and Prosperity to you and to your dear families.

All to the glory of God

Dear brothers in Christ,
By the Grace of God we have completed 29 years of ministry in the black continent, the vast Africa. The lot given to us by the Lord is, as you already know, Kolwezi and the whole of Katanga province. All this time our eyes have seen a lot of things. Naturally, we have faced numerous difficulties and plenty of adversity, we have lived unequalled moments of sorrow, grief, anguish but joy as well, through which one can see the grace of God, which always covers us protectively, regardless of whether we feel it or not. We sometimes start a project from scratch with no prospects of completing it and then the Lord comes to our assistance, always providing a solution, so eventually this project is fulfilled to the Glory of God. After all, this is the ultimate purpose of our humble ministry here: everything is done to the Glory of God. Thus, no matter what project we are working on, whether it is school or church construction, performing baptisms, priest ordinations, or charity, everything should be done not in praise of ourselves but to the Glory of His Hallow Name. Undoubtedly there are plenty of needs, but it is practically impossible to cover them all. However, it is your love that helps us move forward and makes our efforts bear fruit.
This year it was imperative that we have two new churches erected as the flock is growing bigger and bigger and the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist should not be performed in mud-huts or mud brick churches. So far, 45 churches have been constructed, while there are another 65 mud brick ones that are operating. The fact that these humble churches have a makeshift iconostasis, no pulpit or iconography, no window or door frames, no tiled floor, are by no means less blessed than the completed one. We could say that there, God’s grace is the same or even greater. However, it is for purely practical reasons that such churches should be replaced by constructed ones since in periods of drought, strong winds raise clouds of dust which comes in during the D. Liturgy, and in rainy seasons the mud bricks get wet, so the risk of collapse is high, as it happened at St. Menas’ church at the time of the Divine Liturgy. It was a tragic case indeed when at the time of the Communion Hymn, the parish priest Fr. Lazarus, a pure-hearted Levite, came out at the Beautiful Gate in order to preach the sermon, and the whole of the eastern wall behind the Sanctuary collapsed with a thunderous sound.
This is why once more we appeal to your love and ask for your support for the reconstruction of the two aforementioned churches, whose cost is estimated at 50,000 euro each. We will be grateful to those friends of the Mission that will undertake the funding of this project, and their names will always be remembered by our African priests in memory eternal.

The last team of 2017 has returned home from Kenya after a great time teaching youth in Nairobi. 2018 teams are now available. Your time and talents are needed. Please prayerfully consider applying today!

The last team of 2017 has returned after teaching teens at St. Clement Orthodox School, located near the Makarios III Patriarchal Seminary in Nairobi, through a multi-day youth mentorship program where they taught life skills and shared the Orthodox Christian Faith. The team helped broaden a sense of self-awareness and self-confidence, cultivate an appreciation for education, equip teens and youth with life skills beyond academics, and impart a positive approach and attitude to life through crafts, activities, and discussions.

OCMC Mission Teams Director Andrew Lekos led the team. Of the experience he reflects, “Our Lord calls us to become His disciples by participating in making disciples. Our team goal was to offer a witness of our Holy Orthodox Faith in action. We ask team members to be servants and learners. Mission accomplished! The work, worship, and witness allowed us to learn and serve.”

2017 was an amazing year for OCMC Mission Teams that saw 146 team members serve in eight countries around the world. Highlights included:

• 18 Team projects with 146 Team members (including 42 past members), supporting 6 OCMC missionaries
• Members representing 10 different jurisdictions, 28 US states, as well as Canada
• Ages ranging 12 to 74 years young, with 16 family units
• Serving 10 hierarchs in over 25 communities
• Teaching over 1,085 adults (including seminarians, clergy, clergy wives, teachers, and lay leaders)
• Ministering to over 1,290 youth, young adults, and their leaders
• Caring for 640 patients, while working alongside local doctors, nurses, and health workers
• Utilizing nearly $109,000 in Team grants for medicines, orphanages, retreats, camps, seminars, conferences, clergy, leaders, seminarians (33), and projects
• Raising awareness with 780 supporters, including over 385 new donors
• Offering numerous witness opportunities of the Faith in action

Next year will be full of even more milestones as the Mission Center responds to a call for more than 140 short-term team members in 2018. For the first time ever, OCMC will be partnering with Project Mexico to send Orthodox Christians to help build homes for people in need while gaining a deeper understanding of the missionary ethos of the Church. The Mission Center will also be partnering with sister agency Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) to send college students to Albania for Real Break. And, we are excited to share that an OCMC team will be serving in Jamaica for the first time.

Περισσότεροι από 200 Ορθόδοξοι νέοι ηλικίας από 12 έως 22 ετών συγκεντρώθηκαν στο Κολλέγιο του Αγίου Πέτρου στο Λάρτε για μια δεκαήμερη κατασκηνωτική περίοδο.
Την Τρίτη 22 Αυγούστου, άρχισαν να καταφτάνουν οι κατασκηνωτές με λεωφορεία. Καταγράφηκαν και τοποθετήθηκαν σε δύο μεγάλες ομάδες υπό την επίβλεψη των ομαδαρχών. Αμέσως, υπήρξε μεγάλο δέσιμο μεταξύ κατασκηνωτών και στελεχών. Μια μεταδοτική χαρά διέπνεε το χώρο. Σύντομα ένα σύνθημα ακουγόταν από συνάντηση σε συνάντηση, από τάξη σε τάξη, από εκδήλωση σε εκδήλωση:

Μαθαίνουμε την Ορθόδοξη πίστη!
Ζούμε την Ορθόδοξη ζωή!

 Η ιδέα ήταν να δημιουργήσουμε και να παράσχουμε μια ατμόσφαιρα πλήρους εμβάπτισης στην Ορθόδοξη ζωή. Αυτός ήταν ένας τρόπος να ενισχύσουμε την πίστη των νεαρών και να τους προστατέψουμε από τον επιθετικό και βλαβερό προσηλυτισμό. Οι καθημερινές δραστηριότητες περιελάμβαναν την πρωινή προσευχή και το αγιογραφικό ανά ομάδες, ενώ ακολουθούσε ο όρθρος. Στη συνέχεια τρώγαμε πρωινό και ακολουθούσαν δύο ώρες μελέτης με μικρά διαλείμματα μεταξύ τους. Έπειτα είχαμε το γεύμα, το μεσημεριανό σιωπητήριο και τις απογευματινές δραστηριότητες, όπως χειροτεχνίες, αθλήματα, συζητήσεις για θέματα της ζωής που αφορούν αυτή την ηλικιακή ομάδα και πολύ παιχνίδι. Ακολουθούσε λίγος χρόνος για φρεσκάρισμα, για να συγκεντρωθούμε πάλι όλοι μαζί στο μικροσκοπικό εκκλησάκι της Αναστάσεως για τον εσπερινό, που έψαλλαν με πολύ ζήλο οι κατασκηνωτές. Σε αυτές τις ακολουθίες, ένας από τους υπευθύνους έκανε μια εμψυχωτική ομιλία, για να μας βοηθήσει να «ζούμε την Ορθόδοξη ζωή» και να είμαστε καλύτεροι Ορθόδοξοι Χριστιανοί. Τον εσπερινό ακολουθούσε το δείπνο και ένα βραδινό πρόγραμμα ουσιαστικής επιμορφωτικής ψυχαγωγίας. Η ημέρα έκλεινε με τη βραδινή προσευχή ανά ομάδες, πριν οι κατασκηνωτές αποσυρθούν για κατάκλιση.
Όμως, οι κατασκηνωτές έλαβαν και πολλά δώρα. Μεταξύ αυτών ξεχώριζε μια φουσκωτή ηλιακή λάμπα που μαγνητίζει το βλέμμα και με βεβαιότητα θα κάνει το διάβασμα κάπως ευκολότερο για τους νεαρούς στις αγροτικές περιοχές. Όταν επέστρεψαν στο σπίτι, πολλά παιδιά επεδείκνυαν με υπερηφάνεια το λαμπερό σάκο με το λογότυπο της κατασκήνωσης ή τα δώρα που είχαν φτιάξει μόνα τους για τις μητέρες τους.

Για πρώτη φορά, η κατασκήνωσή μας είχε μεγάλη επιτυχία. Η κραυγή των παιδιών την τελευταία ημέρα της κατασκήνωσης τα έλεγε όλα. Καθώς συνάζονταν στη μικρή αίθουσα για το τελευταίο μάθημα και στο χώρο μπροστά στο εκκλησάκι για την τελετή λήξης, έψαλλαν:

Γιέπε α γιένκο!

Αυτό δεν μεταφράζεται εύκολα. Εννοούσαν απλά: «Δε θέλουμε να φύγουμε»! Αυτή η κραυγή υποχώρησε μόνο όταν τους διαβεβαιώσαμε ότι αυτή θα είναι μια ετήσια συνάντηση και ότι την επόμενη χρονιά θα διαρκέσει τουλάχιστον δύο εβδομάδες. Η είδηση χαιρετίστηκε με ζωηρές επευφημίες χαράς.
