On Sunday 3rd December 2017, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa visited the Dependency of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Moscow, where he attended the Church service at the Holy Church of All Saints.
His Beatitude the Patriarch was warmly welcomed by the Exarch of the Patriarchate in Moscow, His Eminence Athanasios of Cyrene.
The Divine Liturgy was conducted by His Eminence Seraphim, Metropolitan of Zimbabwe, together with clergy from Moscow. The Alexandrian Primate and the Metropolitans Athanasios of Cyrene and Meletios of Carthage were prayerfully present in the Holy Sanctuary.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Patriarch said, amongst other things: “Here in our Dependency, the heart of the Patriarchate beats in Moscow, while my heart beats in our Dependency in Odessa, where I served for 10 years… We came here to Moscow to celebrate a huge even, and I consider it a great blessing, that on the day that I was elected as Patriarch (9/10/2004), is the day of the feast of Patriarch St. Tykhon”.
Addressing Metropolitan Athanasios of Cyrene, he called him, together with the Metropolitan of Zimbabwe, children of the “Virgin of Kykkos” and thanked him for his love, his nobility, as well as the important efforts he has made in the past 17 years in Moscow, as Exarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
Receiving and venerating the relics of St. Savas the Sanctified that was brought from Crete at the church of St. Savas in Cyprus which is under the Patriarchate of Alexandria and allAfrica.

Κυριακή, 3 Δεκεμβρίου 2017 Kitwe-Zambia Με τις ευλογίες της ΑΘΜ του Πάπα και ο Πατριάρχη Αλεξανδρείας και Πάσης Αφρικής κ.Θεόδωρου Β` Με λαμπρότητα τελέσθηκαν τα τα Ιερά τα Εγκαίνια του πάνσεπτου και περικαλλούς Ιερού Ναού του Αγίου Ανδρέα στο Kitwe της Ζάμπια υπό του Σεβασμιοτατου Μητροπολίτου Ζάμπιας κ. Ιωάννη , εν συνεχεία ο Σεβ. ιερούργησε στον κατάμεστο από πιστούς ναό, κυρίως των μικρών παιδιών που κρατούσαν ελληνικές σημαίες και με ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον παρακολου...θούσαν τον εγκαινιασμό του Ναού. Ο Σεβ. με μεστό Θεολογικό λόγο μίλησε για την όλη ακολουθία των εγκαινειων και την σημασία των τελουμένων . Ευχαρίστησε την Πρόεδρο κ. Μαίρη Σαμαρά και το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Kitwe ,της εθελόντριες κ.κ. Βίκυ,Φαιη και όλους τους Έλληνες για την φιλοξενία και την άριστη συνεργασία , το «ελληνικό φιλότιμο» που τους διακατέχει και τον Ελληνισμό που είναι βαθιά ριζωμένος μέσα τους . Χαρακτηριστικά τόνισε ο Σεβασμιότατος:
"Παρά το γεγονός, ότι ζείτε χρόνια μακριά από την πάτρια γη , οι παραδοσιακές αξίες της φυλής μας και η κοινή σας πίστη αποτέλεσαν τον κοινό παρονομαστή, που λειτούργησε ως συνεκτικός κρίκος. Ο Ελληνισμός του Kitwe κατόρθωσε, όχι μόνο να επιβιώσει μέσα στον χρόνο , αλλά και να αναπτύξει σημαντικές δραστηριότητες και πρωτοβουλίες με στόχο την διατήρηση της ελληνικής ταυτότητας, που αποτελεί την μόνιμη και διαχρονική επιδίωξή του την Ορθόδοξη Χριστιανική πίστη ,την εθνική συνείδηση, τη γλώσσα, τη καταγωγή, τις παραδόσεις τον πολιτισμό, "και κατέληξε "το Φιλότιμο που σας διακατέχει σαν φυλή είναι Λέξη-επικεφαλίδα κάθε ένδοξου κεφαλαίου του ελληνικού πολιτισμού, στα θεμέλια του σύγχρονου παγκόσμιου." Στη συνέχεια έδωσε την ευλογία του και ευχαρίστησε όλους όσους παρευρέθηκαν στην Ιερά Μυσταγωγία. Ο Σεβασμιότατος κ. Ιωάννης, μετά το πέρας της λατρευτικής Συνάξεως παρακολουθησε εορταστικό πρόγραμμα .. Ιερός Ναός του Αγίου Ανδρέα Kitwe Πρώτη προτεραιότητα των Ελλήνων που άρχισαν να κατοικούν στο Kitwe την δεκαετία του 1930 ήταν η κατασκευή Ιερού Ναού για την εκτέλεση των θρησκευτικών τους καθηκόντων. Η κατασκευή του Ναού ξεκίνησε το 1963 και αποπερατώθηκε κατά το έτος 1964, σε οικόπεδο δωρεάς του κ.Μιχαήλ Ενοτιαδη για το σκοπό αυτό και την ανέγερση κοινοτικής αίθουσας. Το καμπαναριό κατασκευάστηκε το 1974 εξ ολοκλήρου , δωρεά της οικογένειας κ. Γεωργίου Νικολάου.
Το θαύμα συνεχίζεται στο Ρουμπάρε της Νότιας Ουγκάντας .Ο π.Αριστοτέλης Ασήμουε ο εφημέριος της νέας ενορίας Παναγίας Μυρτιδιώτισσας και Παισίου και Πορφυρίου, δεν ξέρει από ξεκούραση.Με πολύ ζήλο φτιάχνει την πρόχειρη εκκλησία που θα στεγάσει τις κατηχουμένους αδελφούς.Οι φωτογραφίες που μας στέλνει συχνά δείχνουν την ταχύτητα που συνεχίζεται το έργο με την ευλογία και την πρόνοια του Θεού.Ο Θεός να τον ευλογεί και εκείνον την πρεσσβυτέρα Μαγδαληνή αλλά και όλους τους νέους πιστούς της ενορίας.Ευχαριστούμε ακόμη όσους με κάθε τρόπο βοηθούν και συνδράμουν την ενορία αυτή. With God’s help and the blessings of Their Eminences Metropolitans George of Guinea and Theoklitos of Florina , a journey to Sierra Leone in West Africa was carried out by a missionary team from the Holy Metropolis of Florina from May 23rd to June 9th, 2017. That team consisted of the writer himself, two nuns from St. Athanasius H.Monastery of Florina, and Mr. Constantine Christomanos, honorary professor at the University of Thessalonica. The visit took place at the invitation of the missionary Rev.Themistocles Adamopoulos. The purpose of this mission was to offer assistance in a difficult and multi-faceted work that is carried out there, such as the clergy specialization or training in liturgical matters, given that in Sierra Leone there is no Orthodox ecclesiastical tradition, since the Orthodox Church has only had ten years of life there. During our twenty-day stay there, we tried as much as we could to meet the purpose of our journey. Several lessons were given regarding issues on the value of the holy service, the performance of the sacred services of Vespers, Matins and of the Divine Liturgy, as well as the general order and the decency of the church. I must admit that the interest on the part of the indigenous priests was very big. At the same time, the nuns tried to teach women how to knead prosphoro (altar bread) for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy. Unfortunately, several times the priests in the African Sea are forced toperform the sacred mystery using common bread (loaf) that they buy from a bakery! The women were also instructed how to make koliva (boiled wheat). A sewing machine was also bought , which enabled us to make covers for the Holy Tables, altar boy robes and other ecclesiastical stuff. Moreover, other activities were carried out, such as church preaching, catechetical classes to youth gatherings and lectures given at the Orthodox Pedagogical College by Mr. Christomanos. During our stay we were hosted at the Orthodox Mission Center, which is situated in Freetown, the country’s capital. In this compound, apart from the residence center where we stayed, there is a sacred church dedicated to Sts. Constantine and Helen, which was built through the sponsorship of the Missionary Alliance «St. Cosmas the Aetolian « in Thessalonica. The compound also houses the College (Pedagogical School) which we have previously mentioned, project funded by the generosity of the same Alliance, a notable institution of our Church offering a high level – study and being attended by some 135 students. Also under construction is a kindergarten along with a boarding house for destitute and deserted children. In Syke Street, another area in the center of the capital, there is the second Orthodox Center, which includes St. Eleftherios Cathedral , which was funded with donations from the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity of Thessalonica, as well as a School for 2,000 Kindergarten and Primary School children. In the same premises there is a school building consisting of 16 rooms, funded by the generosity of a lady from Athens through the same Fraternity. The third Center is located in Waterloo, 20 km away from the capital. Within its premises there is the church of the Resurrection of Christ and St. Moses the African, also sponsored by the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity of Thessalonica. There is the second school unit of our Orthodox Church, which is attended by another 500 children. In the same compound there are small houses hosting disabled victims of the civil war, which plagued Sierra Leone between 1991 and 2000. During our stay in Sierra Leone we made two important visits. One was to the School for Blind Children, a state institution for blind kids abandoned by their relatives. Their children attend classes at the School there and are hosted at a boarding house which is within the premises of the institution. The boarding house is supplied with food by the Orthodox Mission, since the state cannot meet all its needs. We were deeply touched by the blind children’s beautiful singing and the expression of their gratitude to all those who send food from Greece. Rev. Themistocles suggested that the Orthodox Church should undertake the school’s running and maintenance.

The other visit was to a district of the capital, Kroo bay, which is considered among the poorest and most deprived areas in the world. This visit was one of the most striking experiences of our lives. There are no words to describe the living conditions in that slum. Humans live in sheds most unsuited for human shelter, without adequate access to sanitation and health services or drainage system, resulting in the entire region giving off an unbearable stench. It is considered to be the «Africa of Africa «. With a lot of difficulty and precautions, we walked on the muddy and dirty paths and visited the school and the clinic only to find them in an awful condition. We couldn’t believe our eyes. What we saw was really incredible. When we left, we had the feeling that we had come back from hell. Rev. Themistocles is considering asking the state to concede the school’s maintenance and operation to our Church. Our journey left us with a lot of indelible impressions and conscience-shattering experiences. We experienced the miracle of the creation of a Church. We saw how the grace of God, without the human means and facilities employed by other denominations, attracts the souls to the only true Church, Orthodoxy, overcomes all obstacles, and opens up streets to spread the Gospel. When one is given the chance to have a close look at such difficulties, they feel it is their duty to pray more fervently for the work of our missionaries and support it in every possible way. Fr. Πιστός στή διακονία του μέχρι τέλους ὁ Μητροπολίτης ... Τήν ἡμέρα τῆς μνήμης τοῦ ἁγίου Νεκταρίου, Μητροπολίτου Πενταπόλεως, ἀνεχώρησε γιά τόν οὐρανό ὁ Πενταπόλεως Ἰγνάτιος (Μαδενλίδης), ὁ φλογερός ἱεραπόστολος καί ἀκάματος ἐργάτης τοῦ Εὐαγγελίου, μέλος τῆς Ἀδελφότητος Θεολόγων «Ὁ Σωτήρ» καί μάλιστα ἐκ τῶν ἱδρυτικῶν της μελῶν. Ὁ Σεβασμιώτατος Πενταπόλεως κυρός Ἰγνάτιος (1930-2017) —κατά κόσμον Γεώργιος Μαδενλίδης— ὑπηρέτησε ὡς λαϊκός θεολόγος τῆς Ἀδελφότητος σέ διάφορες πόλεις τῆς Ἑλλάδος, ἐργάσθηκε ἐπί δεκαετίες ὡς ἱεροκήρυκας τῆς Ἱερᾶς Μητροπόλεως Λαρίσης καί Τυρνάβου καί στή συνέχεια διεδέχθη τόν μακαριστό ἱεραπόστολο π. Χαρίτωνα Πνευματικάκη στό ἱεραποστολικό ἔργο τῆς Κανάνγκα τοῦ Κονγκό. Τό Πατριαρχεῖο Ἀλεξανδρείας τόν ἐξέλεξε Μητροπολίτη Κεντρώας Ἀφρικῆς τό 2003 ἐνῶ, ὅταν ἀργότερα ζήτησε λόγω γήρατος νά παραιτηθεῖ ἀπό τή θέση αὐτή, τοῦ ἀπένειμε τόν τίτλο «Πενταπόλεως». Ὁ μακαριστός ἐπίσκοπος Ἰγνάτιος μέχρι τέλους συνέχιζε τήν διακονία του στήν ἐξωτερική ἱεραποστολή ἐργαζόμενος μέ αὐταπάρνηση κοντά στούς ἀφρικανούς ἀδελφούς μας. Βρισκόταν στό χωριό Μπάλα, περίπου 30 χιλιόμετρα ἀπό τήν Κανάνγκα, καί φρόντιζε γιά τήν ἀποπεράτωση τοῦ ἐκεῖ Ἱεροῦ Ναοῦ Κοιμήσεως Θεοτόκου, ὅταν ὑπέστη κάταγμα ἀπό πτώση. Μεταφἐρθηκε στήν Ἑλλάδα, ὅπου οἱ ἱατροί προσέφεραν τό μέγιστο τῶν δυνατοτήτων τους καί ἡ χάρις τοῦ Θεοῦ βοήθησε, παρά τήν σοβαρή ἐπιδείνωση τῆς ὑγείας του, νά ἐπανακτήσει ὁ Γέροντας ἀρχιερεύς τήν ἐπικοινωνία μέ τό περιβάλλον του καί νά ἀνακουφισθεῖ ἀπό τήν παρουσία τῶν ἀδελφῶν κοντά του. Τίς τελευταῖες ἡμέρες πρίν φύγει, προαισθανόμενος τήν ἔξοδό του, ἔλεγε «φεύγω γιά νά ἀναπαυθῶ» καί ἔδινε τήν εὐχή του σέ ὅσους τόν διακονούσαν. Στό τέλος ἐπαναλάμβανε: «ἔλα, Πνεῦμα Ἅγιο». Αὐτές ἦταν οἱ τελευταῖες του λέξεις. Συνέγραψε βιβλία κυρίως ἁγιολογικά καί οἰκοδομητικά μέ θέματα ἀπό τήν Ἁγία Γραφή, ἀλλά καί θέματα ὀρθοδόξου πίστεως γιά τίς ἀνάγκες τῆς ἱεραποστολῆς.
On 4th December 2017, His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, officiated at the Patriarchal Concelebration at the Cathedral of the Saviour in Moscow, before the shrine of St Tykhon, concelebrated by Their Beatitudes the Patriarchs Theophilos of Jerusalem, Kirill of Moscow, Daniel of Romania and Irenaios of Serbia. The Archbishops Chrysostomos of Cyprus, Anastasios of Albania, Savvas of Poland, Rastislav of the Czech Republic, Onouphrios of the Ukraine, Tykhon of America and Canada and representatives of the Churches of Georgia and Bulgaria also concelebrated.
