Εκοιμήθη σήμερα, 9η Νοεμβρίου 2017, ο Σεβασμ. Μητροπολίτης Πενταπόλεως κ.Ιγνάτιος, εφησυχάζων Ιεράρχης του Πατριαρχείου Αλεξανδρείας.

Ο μακαριστός Αρχιερεύς, κατά κόσμον Γεώργιος Μανδελίδης, εγεννήθη στην Έδεσσα το 1930, όπου και εσπούδασε τα εγκύκλια γράμματα. Πτυχιούχος της Θεολογικής Σχολής Αθηνών κατέστη το 1952, χειροτονήθηκε Διάκονος το 1968, Πρεσβύτερος και Αρχιμανδρίτης το 1969. Επί σαράντα έτη διηκόνησε ως Ιεροκήρυξ (αρχικά ως λαϊκός και μέλος της Αδελφότητος Θεολόγων «Ο Σωτήρ» και εν συνεχεία, από το το 1969, ως κληρικός στην Ιερά Μητρόπολη Λαρίσης, έως το 1998, προσφέροντας πλουσιότατο ποιμαντικό έργο, ως βοηθός του φλογερού ιεραποστόλου γέροντός του, Αρχιμ. Χαρίτωνος Πνευματικάκη, στην Κανάνγκα του Κονγκό. Το έτος 1997, διορίσθη υπεύθυνος του ιεραποστολικού κλιμακίου, από τον Σεβασμ. Μητροπολίτη Κεντρώας Αφρικής κυρό Τιμόθεο. Την 14η Μαρτίου 2003 (θανόντος του μακαριστού Τιμοθέου), εξελέγη υπό της Ιεράς Συνόδου του Πατριαρχείου Αλεξανδρείας, Μητροπολίτης Κεντρώας Αφρικής, χειροτονηθείς στον Πατριαρχικό Ι. Ναό Αγίου Σάββα την 16η Μαρτίου 2003, από τον μακαριστό Πάπα και Πατριάρχη Αλεξανδρείας Πέτρο Ζ΄. Στις 4 Μαρτίου 2010, παραιτήθηκε για λόγους υγείας και η ΑΘΜ ο Πάπας και Πατριάρχης Αλεξανδρείας και Πάσης Αφρικής κ.κ.Θεόδωρος Β΄, τιμητικώς τον ανύψωσε στις 23 Νοεμβρίου του ιδίου έτους, σε τιτουλάριο Μητροπολίτη Πενταπόλεως, δίδοντάς του για πρώτη φορά τον τίτλο της Επισκοπής του Αγίου Νεκταρίου, επισκόπου Πενταπόλεως, του θαυματουργού. Έκτοτε, έως και την ημέρα της κοιμήσεώς του, 9 Νοεμβρίου 2017, ημέρα κατά την οποία εορτάζει η Εκκλησία μας τον Άγιο Νεκτάριο Πενταπόλεως, προσέφερε τον εαυτό του στη διακονία της ιεραποστολής, παραμένοντας στις επάλξεις και αναλώνοντας τον εαυτό του, για τη δόξα του Θεού και της Εκκλησίας Του.

Η Εξόδιος Ακολουθία, θα τελεσθεί το Σάββατο 11 Νοεμβρίου στις 11.00π.μ., στον Ιερό Ναό Αγίου Νικολάου Πευκακίων, ενώ η ταφή του μακαριστού Μητροπολίτη Ιγνατίου, θα γίνει στο Κοιμητήριο του Ζωγράφου. Ας είναι αιωνία η μνήμη, του φλογερού ιεραποστόλου και τιμίου εργάτη του Ευαγγελίου, Μητροπολίτου Πενταπόλεως κυρού Ιγνατίου!

His Eminence Metropolitan Ignatios of Pentapolis, retired Hierarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, fell asleep in the Lord today, 9th November 2017.

The late Hierarch, born George Mandelides in Edessa in 1930, where he completed his schooling. As a holder of a degree from the Theological Academy of Athens in 1952, he was ordained Deacon in 1968, Presbyter and Archimandrite in 1969. For forty years he served as a preacher (originally as a layman and member of the Brotherhood of Theologians “Sotir”, and then from 1969 as a priest in the Holy Metropolis of Larissa, until 1998, contributing a rich pastoral effort, as an assistant to his fiery missionary elder, Archimandrite Hariton Pnevmatikakis, in Kananga, Congo. In 1997, he was placed in charge of the missionary squad, by His Eminence Timotheos, Metropolitan of Central Africa. On 14th March 2003 (passing of the late Timotheos), he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, as Metropolitan of Central Africa, ordained in the Patriarchal Church of St Savvas on 16th March 2003, by the late Pope and Patriarch Petros VII of Alexandria. On 4th March 2010, he resigned for health reasons and His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, honorably elevated him on 23 November of the same year to titular Metropolitan of Pentapolis, given him for the first time the title of the Diocese of St Nektarios, the Wonderworker, Bishop of Pentapolis. From that time, up until the day of his passing, 9th November 2017, the day on which our Church celebrates the memory of St Nektarios of Pentapolis, he gave himself to the service of the Missions, remaining in the ramparts and giving himself for the glory of God and His Church.

His funeral service will take place on Saturday 11th November 2017 at 11.00a.m. in the Holy Church of St Nicholas Pefkakia, and the interment of the late Metropolitan will take place at the Zographos Cemetery. May the memory of the ardent Missionary and honest worker of the Gospel, Metropolitan Ignatios of Pentapolis, be eternal!

Την Τετάρτη και την Πέμπτη, 8η και 9η Νοεμβρίου 2017, η ΑΘΜ ο Πάπας και Πατριάρχης Αλεξανδρείας και πάσης Αφρικής κ.κ.Θεόδωρος Β΄, χοροστάτησε κατά τον Μέγα Πατριαρχικό Εσπερινό και την Θεία Λειτουργία, στο εορτάζον Παρεκκλήσιο του Αγίου Νεκταρίου, Επισκόπου Πενταπόλεως, εντός της Πατριαρχικής Ιεράς Μονής Αγίου Σάββα του Ηγιασμένου Αλεξάνδρειας.

Στις Ιερές Ακολουθίες συμμετείχαν, ο Σεβασμ. Μητροπολίτης Άκκρας και Πατριαρχικός Επίτροπος Αλεξανδρείας κ.Νάρκισσος και Κληρικοί του Πατριαρχείου, ενώ παρευρέθησαν ο Γενικός Πρόξενος της Ελλάδος στην Αλεξάνδρεια κ.Εμμανουήλ Κακαβελάκης, ο Πρόεδρος της Ελληνικής Κοινότητος Αλεξανδρείας κ.Εδμόνδος Κασιμάτης, αρκετοί πιστοί και εκπαιδευτικοί των σχολείων της Ελληνικής Παροικίας. Στο τέλος του πανηγυρικού Εσπερινού, ο Μακαριώτατος Πατριάρχης, λιτάνευσε απότμημα Ιερού Λειψάνου του Αγίου Νεκταρίου, που θησαυρίζεται στην Πατριαρχική Μονή Αγίου Σάββα, ενώ στην συνέχεια, με ιδιαίτερη κατάνυξη εψάλλησαν τα Εγκώμια προς τον Άγιο Νεκτάριο.

 

 

        

 

 

Το πρωί της 9ης Νοεμβρίου, κατά την διάρκεια της Θείας Λειτουργίας, ο Αλεξανδρινός Προκαθήμενος πληροφορήθηκε υπό του Πατριαρχικού Επιτρόπου Αλεξανδρείας κ.Ναρκίσσου, την προς Κύριον εκδημία, του εφησυχάζοντος Ιεράρχου του Πατριαρχείου Αλεξανδρείας, Σεβασμ. Μητροπολίτου Πενταπόλεως κυρού Ιγνατίου, φλογερού ιεραποστόλου και ανύστακτου εργάτου του Ευαγγελίου, στον πνευματικό αμπελώνα της Εκκλησίας, στην Αφρική. Ο Μακαριώτατος, εμφανώς συγκινημένος, εξέφρασε την θλίψη του για την απώλεια του εκλεκτού Ιεράρχου, ο οποίος, όπως χαρακτηριστικά τόνισε, «...υπήρξε υπόδειγμα ιεροκήρυκα και ιεραπόστολου, ακάματου και ανύστακτου εργάτη του Ευαγγελίου του Χριστού και της Ορθοδοξίας στην Αφρική, Ιεράρχης αρετής, αφιλοχρήματος, ασκητικότατος και ολιγαρκής, σε όλη του τη ζωή...», τονίζοντας πως ο αείμνηστος κυρός Ιγνάτιος, ανήγειρε δεκάδες Ιερούς Ναούς στην Λαϊκή Δημοκρατία του Κονγκό και στο Κονγκό-Μπραζαβίλ, με επιβλητικότερο τον μεγαλύτερο Ορθόδοξο Ιερό Ναό σε ολόκληρη την Αφρική, αυτόν του Αγίου Ανδρέου Κανάνγκας. Χειροτόνησε πολλούς Κληρικούς, έκτισε δεκάδες σχολεία, συμβάλλοντας στην μόρφωση χιλιάδων παιδιών, ενώ σπουδαιότερο έργο του, υπήρξε η δημιουργία του Ορθόδοξου Θεολογικού Πανεπιστημίου του Κονγκό, στο οποίο έως σήμερα φοιτούν τα αυριανά στελέχη της ιεραποστολής.

Αμέσως μετά, ο Μακαριώτατος, τέλεσε επιμνημόσυνη δέηση, υπέρ αναπαύσεως της ψυχής του Σεβασμ. Πενταπόλεως κυρού Ιγνατίου.

Στα χώματα του Χαμζάουι Καΐρου και της Πατριαρχικής Επιτροπείας της αιγυπτιακής πρωτεύουσας που αγίασε με τον πανάρετο βίο του ο Άγιος Νεκτάριος, λιγοστοί Αιγυπτιώτες προσήλθαν να ακούσουν την πολυτίμητη εικόνα του και να ακούσουν για το παράδειγμα της ταπεινότητας που πάντα τον χαρακτήρισε, παρότι αδικήθηκε από την τότε Αλεξανδρινή Εκκλησία, που τον εκδίωξε και τον ανάγκασε να μην ανήκει σε κάποια Σύνοδο, όπως χαρακτηριστικά τόνισε με τον γλαφυρό λόγο του ο Καθηγούμενος της Ιεράς Μονής Αγίου Γεωργίου παλαιού Καΐρου, Επίσκοπος Βαβυλώνος κ. Θεόδωρος.







Η ακολουθία του εσπερινού κάτω από τον έναστρο ουρανό έγινε ακριβώς στο κτίριο όπου έζησε ως Πατριαρχικός Επίτροπος ο Επίσκοπος Πενταπόλεως Άγιος Νεκτάριος ο θαυματουργός, στα τέλη του 19^ουαιώνα.

On Wednesday and Thursday, 8th and 9th November 2017, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, officiated during the Great Patriarchal Vespers and the Divine Liturgy at the celebrating chapel of St Nektarios, Bishop of Pentapolis, in the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St Savvas the Sanctified, Alexandria.

Participating in the Services were His Eminence Narkissos Metropolitan of Accra and Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria as well as Clergy of the Patriarchate, with the presence of the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis, the Chairman of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria Mr. Edmond Kassimatis, many faithful and teachers from the Hellenic Community Schools.

At the end of the Festive Vespers, His Beatitude the Patriarch led the procession with the part of the Holy Relics of St Nektarios, which is kept at the Patriarchal Monastery of St Savvas and then, with particular devotion, the Lamentations to St Nektarios were sung.

On the morning of 9th November, during the Divine Liturgy, the Alexandrian Primate was informed by the Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria the passing to the Lord of the retired Hierarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, His Eminence Ignatios Metropolitan of Pentapolis, an ardent missionary and tireless worker of the Gospel, in the spiritual vineyard of the Church in Africa. Visibly moved, His Beatitude expressed his sorrow on the loss of the chosen Hierarch, who stressed characteristically: “…he was a model preacher and a missionary, tireless and unshakeable worker of the Gospel of Christ and of Orthodoxy in Africa, a Hierarch of virtue, not covetous, ascetic and frugal in his life…”, emphasizing that the late Ignatios built many Churches in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in Congo-Brazzaville, the imposing being the largest Orthodox Church in all of Africa, that of St Andrew in Kananga. He ordained many priests, built hundreds of schools, contributing to the education of thousands of children, while his most important work was the creation of the Orthodox Theological University of Congo, at which to this day tomorrow’s missionaries still study.

Immediately thereafter His Beatitude sang the Memorial prayers for the repose of the soul of His Eminence Ignatios of Pentapolis.

Cost of Air and Sunshine ☀ at our orphanage.
We do not need to buy air, water, fire, sunshine and things of this kind. God has given enough of all these blessings for everyone to enjoy them freely. The sun shines equally on the rich and the poor, and they both breathe the same air. Why is it, then, that these necessary things, which sustain life, are created by God for common use, while money is not common? The reason is twofold: to safeguard life and to open the path to vir...tue. On the one hand if the necessities of life were not common, the rich, with their usual greediness, would take them away from the poor. In fact, since they keep all money for themselves, they would certainly do the same with these necessities. On the other hand if money were common and available to all, there would be no opportunity for generosity on the part of the rich and gratitude on the part of the poor. (St John Chrysostom)

There’s a lot to unpack in that quotation, but I’m just going to focus on one critical piece: Money exists and not everybody has it, so that those of us who have it might develop virtue.
