I'm back in Sierra Leone. Back to the realities of a society facing very serious post-Ebola economic challenges. Today I visited Fr. Kyriakos at the Military Hospital 34 (Wilberforce, Freetown). He is recuperating from a severe cold. In 2015 four nurses serving in this ward died from the Ebola virus. Today the Hospital is Ebola free. Thanks be to God!

Innocentios Byakatonda

With the blessing of His Grace Innocentios Byakatonda, the Bishop of Burundi Rwanda and East Congo, we had the Divine Liturgy in Rwamagana this Sunday 23rd Octo...ber 2016. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Father Panaghiotis Uwihanganye from Rwabutazi and the choir was leaded by Doctor Antonios Liaskos from Greece who helps the Bishopric for many things in the side of mission work. And Doctor Antonios took the opportunity to teach the Christians of Orthodox Community in Rwamagana about the Feast of Saint Jacob, the Brother of Jesus Christ we celebrated that day. And he exhorted the Christians to be humble and ready to confess their faith. People in Rwamagana joined the Orthodox Church with great joy so that in only one year of presence of our church the people can not fit in the small hall in which 150 people tried to squeeze and pray. And now people are more than 200 and many of them pray from outside. We pray God for he can help us in the extension of that hall and on having the building of the church according to the orthodox tradition. Rwamagana Community thank a lot the Bishop Innocentios Byakatonda who brought Good News to them. May God grant him many years.

HOLY MARTYR DEMETRIUS, PRAY UNTO GOD FOR US

His grace Bishop of Burundi and Rwanda celebrated the Divine Liturgy in Bujumbura - Charama at the parish of Saint Demetrius which is still under construction.

He is wishing every one world wide happy names day and Feast Day of the Holy and Great Martyr Saint DEMETRIUS
THE FEAST DAY of St. Demetrius is a great feast for all of Orthodoxy.
Today, dear brothers and sisters, we have gathered in this Holy church even though not yet finished to glorify with our prayers St. Demetrius
Our Lord declared: “If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But all this they will do to you on my account, because they do not know Him Who sent Me” (Jn. 15.20-21). And so they did persecute our Lord, and they did persecute the Twelve, and so they continue to persecute his disciples, including the Great Martyr Demetrius, whose memory we commemorate today: because they do not want to know Him Who has come and revealed Himself.

AT THE LAND OF THE PYGMIES...

His Grace Panteleimon, Bishop of Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon, paid a pastoral visit to the Parish Community of the Holy Forerunner - St.Nicholas in the town of Impfondo in the Northern Congo from 20th– 23rd October 2016, accompanied by the Reverend Sergios Mabelemo, Parish Priest of the Parish Community of the Resurrection of the Lord in Brazzaville.
On Friday 21st October the Bishop went to the tropical forest where the Pygmies live and who have embraced the Orthodox faith. During his visit with the members of the tribe – most of whose members at this time of severe rains are in the depths of the tropical forests looking for food – His Grace had the joy of lengthy communication with them. He also handed over a large amount of salt, soap, toothbrushes, toothpastes, razor blades and matches, all of which are essential for their hunting way of life, as well as stationery and sweets for the little children.
On Saturday 22nd October, he had long collaboration with the person in charge of the building works of the Holy Diocese, Mr. Romeo Gomez, who will soon be completing the final work on the newly constructed Holy Parish Church of the Forerunner-St Nicholas.
He also paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of the town of Impfondo, the Honourable Mr. Clotaire Maniobo, who expressed the joy of the local community for the building of the first Orthodox Church in the town, defining it as “a jewel for the town”.
On Sunday 23rd October he conducted the Divine Liturgy and preached the homily in the rented house which is being used temporarily as a place of worship until the inauguration of the above-mentioned church.
A meeting followed with the members of the Parish Council regarding the organization of the ceremony of the inauguration, after which His Grace left by air for Pointe-Noire, via Brazzaville.
